Red colourant for red factor birds, 500 grams.
Bogena Intensive is a colourant for the red colouring of red factor birds: colour canaries, but just as well linnets, goldfinches and other birds with red in their plumage.
As with yellow, the colour is fixed in the feathers that are newly formed. You therefore give it during the moult and in the breeding season; a feather that is already there does not change any more. Anyone going to a show decides in those weeks how his birds will look at the judging.
You can give it in two ways: through the egg food or dissolved in the drinking water. Both methods are set out step by step below.

What you need
- Bogena Intensive, 10 grams per kilo of egg food or per litre of water
- Egg food, or lukewarm drinking water
- A precision scale to weigh accurately
- A mixing bowl and a spoon, or a drinking jug to dissolve it in
Choose how you give it
Through the egg food or dissolved in the drinking water. Both work; choose what suits the way you usually feed your birds.
If you work with egg food, you have more control over what each bird takes in. Through the drinking water it goes faster with a larger number of cages.
Weigh out 10 grams
Reckon on 10 grams per kilo of egg food, or 10 grams per litre of lukewarm drinking water.
Weigh accurately. Giving more does not make the colour better; an even intake across the whole moulting period does.
Mix or dissolve
In egg food: distribute the colourant thoroughly through the whole kilo, so every mouthful contains the same amount.
In water: use lukewarm water and stir until everything has dissolved, with no grains or sediment.
Refresh twice a day
Refresh the coloured egg food or the drinking water twice a day during the moulting and breeding period.
Moist egg food spoils quickly: do not prepare more than your birds eat in one day.
