Exhibition sand is white sand, meant for spreading in exhibition cages. At a show the cages stand side by side and are judged close up: a crisp white floor makes the cage look well kept and lets the bird itself get the attention.
This is not shell sand. Where shell sand is first of all bedding that absorbs moisture and supplies calcium, here it is about appearance: an even white layer that looks the same in every cage.
