Dosage

Dosage Advice: Starting and Optimisation

The dose of 10 grams per 1 kg of egg food is a general and safe starting point for beginners.

Experienced breeders sometimes successfully use lower dosages (4 to 8 grams), depending on the bird's bloodline and the desired end result.

Start with 10 grams, observe the colour intensity during the moult, and adjust the dosage in subsequent seasons to find the optimal amount for your birds.

Dissolving the Lutein

Lutein Dissolving

Measure the Dose: Accurately measure the chosen amount (e.g., 10 grams) of MAWE Lutein.

Warm the Water: Take a small amount of water and heat it to at least 40°C (hand-warm to slightly warmer). This is essential for a perfect solution.

Add the Lutein: Place the lutein into the warm water.

Dissolve Thoroughly: Stir vigorously until the lutein is completely dissolved. The goal is to create a clear, concentrated colour solution, without any granules or undissolved substance.

Egg Food Mixing

Administration to the Birds

Prepare the Egg Food: Place 1 kilogram of dry egg food in the mixing bowl.

Add the Solution: Use the fully dissolved lutein solution and any remaining water (from the total amount needed) to moisten the egg food. Pour the solution gradually over the dry egg food.

Mix Extremely Well: Subsequently, mix the egg food thoroughly. Ensure the yellow colour solution is completely and uniformly distributed throughout the entire kilogram of egg food. This guarantees uniform colour deposition in the new feathers.

Administration

Administration to the Birds

Time Period: Start the administration of the coloured egg food before the moult and continue it throughout the entire moulting period (when the new feathers are being formed).

Freshness: The egg food is now moist. Prevent spoilage by only preparing an amount that will be consumed by the birds within one day.

How should I store MAWE Lutein?

You should store MAWE Lutein in a cool, dark place, such as a cellar, to maintain its quality. You may also store the product in the refrigerator. In that case, please note that the lutein may become viscous (syrupy) due to the cold. Should this occur, you may add a small amount of water to make the substance a little looser and easier to handle.
